We assist the young adult in providing training, instruction and coordination to develop need skills in the following areas which may include, but not limited to:
- Good decision-making skills;
- Obtaining safe and affordable housing;
- How to access and use public transportation as available as well as assist in training for driver’s license as appropriate;
- Résumé preparation and interviewing skills;
- Successfully securing a job;
- Budgeting and money management;
- Opening back account and maintenance of check book;
- Educational and vocational training planning, including linkage to adult learning and GED programs and financial aid centers;
- Linkage to physical and mental health coverage and services, as needed; and,
- Grocery shopping for nutritious items and basic cooking skills and kitchen sanitation.
Staff Competency
All caseworkers of Health Connect America assigned to providing independent living services will have as minimum staffing requirements: a bachelor’s level specialist under the direct supervision of a master’s level or state licensed professional; and, training for staff prior to their working with families delivering independent living services.
Additionally, our caseworkers will have demonstrated educational competence and met guidelines regarding experience and educational requirements. Other forms of monitoring to ensure continued quality care include direct performance observations as well as the administration of written examinations and skills testing.
